Filodamos – Python, React, Django

The project was an application built for a customer in the travel industry, utilizing the distributed system architecture with REST API (30 active servers). The target audience included leisure travelers, business travelers, hoteliers, and travel agencies. The main functionality of the system is its cutting-edge real-time trip planner. Additional services included:

1. Accounting management system with multiple ledgers.
2. Hotel content management system with real-time hotel mapping holding more than 100 million database entries.
3. Central reservation system capable of executing real time reservation of dynamic travel packages.
4. Custom content management system for managing destination information with extensive geospatial data, allowing for easy geofencing as well as complex geo-queries.
5. AI service, responsible for transforming customer free-text quotation requests into fully-fledged bookable dynamic travel packages.

It allowed for the creation of complex multi-destination trips all over the globe, combining any number of real-time services, including flights, hotels, transfers, ferries, trains, activities and more.

Filodamos accomplished the following:

• made key architectural decisions for the distributed system structure;
• oversaw the complete implementation of the trip planning system;
• recruited and built a team of 8 engineers;
• developed the travel platform;
• implemented a large part of the underlying search engines;
• designed & implemented the API data fusion between different travel API suppliers;
• designed & implemented the central reservation system (CRS).

The customer was a company that specialized in providing innovative travel solutions. Their primary focus was on enhancing the travel experience through advanced technology.

The idea was to build a travel management system for tour operators, utilizing a multi-tenant monolith model, based in Django with PostgreSQL and REDIS in the backend and React in the front end with a custom CSS framework using SASS. The platform was an end-to-end solution allowing agents to create a subagent network selling their travel products on a branded online B2B travel platform.

Among others, Filodamos managed the following:

• made core architectural decisions of the system and built it from scratch;
• implemented major functionalities like a hotel search engine;
• provided and built front-end and back-end solutions for the Central Reservation System and the CRM;
• integrated multiple APIs like flights, hotels, city transfers and ferries;
• managed a team of 5 engineers;
• took responsibility for understanding customers' problems and designing their solutions.

The client was a single-page web application created for the Chinese market, allowing users to create their dynamic trips to Greece, such as island hopping, in a fully interactive way with real-time pricing and availability. The idea was to build the system based on Django with PostgreSQL and jQuery in the front end with a monolith architecture, later deploying it on AWS.

Filodamos successfully performed the following:

• implemented B2C UI using jQuery and Django templates;
• implemented the backend reservations and search engine systems for hotels, flights and transfers;
• architected the layer to make the system fully accessible from within China without triggering the Great Firewall;
• implemented a price caching solution based on memcached so as to provide instant production pricing.
