Lead Mobile Engineer - Android Platforms
An educational game for children on tablets, built with Flutter and the Flame game engine, for iOS and Android. Parents sign in and create child profiles. Children never sign in. A parent picks a child on the device, and the child plays. Content is a tree of worlds, regions, paths and levels. A path is also called a module. Each level runs in order: an intro comic, a mini-game, quizzes from the game's characters, an outro comic and a completion screen. The app has seven game types: aerial, platformer, flappy, card flip, runner, hasee bounce and catch falling object. I own the achievements module and content-delivery features.

- Redesigned game content delivery by packing about 13,000 files into 21 zipped bundles on Supabase Storage, cutting a full QA download from 30+ minutes to about 4.
- Resolved misplaced character issues by finding and fixing how the game converted design coordinates to screen positions.
- Recorded a video guide for content authors.
- Built live tuning panels and drag-and-drop edit modes in test builds so designers could adjust gameplay without waiting for a new build.
- Built the Achievements feature end to end, including an offline-first badge catalog, a Supabase Edge Function rules engine, unlock toasts, and Amplitude events.
Lead Mobile Engineer - Android Platforms
A health information platform for the spinal cord injury community. The community needed one place to find trusted, stage-specific health content and get answers to their questions. A Flutter app for iOS and Android with a personalized feed and an AI assistant. During onboarding, users pick their user type and injury stage, and those choices tailor both the feed and the chat’s starter questions. The app has three tabs: Home, Ask (AI chat), and Browse. Measurable Outcome: v1.0.0 shipped in April 2026, with Kurt as the top contributor (78 of 144 mobile commits).

- Led mobile development as the top contributor (78 of 144 commits) and shipped v1.0.0 in April 2026
- Built a real-time AI chat that streams answers over Server-Sent Events, with article sources and in-app PDF viewing
- Built full authentication: sign-in, sign-up with email verification, password reset, JWT sessions with auto-logout, account deletion and deep links
- Built the home screen, browse feeds and paginated article search
- Set up Sentry crash reporting and CI/CD with Codemagic and Fastlane
Senior Android Engineer
The Android banking app of one of Canada’s Big Five banks, built by many pods. It serves personal, business, and high-net-worth customers, many of them older adults. Legacy XML screens didn’t support rotation, tablets, or foldables, which Android 16 required. Loyalty features also had to be accessible to an older audience. Kurt worked in the Loyalty & Rewards area, which covers credit card rewards, the Loyalty Hub, and partner programs with airline, travel, retail, and coffee brands. He built Compose screens with a focus on accessibility. 25+ legacy screens across 5 flows were made Android 16-ready.
- Led Android for TD’s Loyalty & Rewards team and two offshore developers by assigning tickets, reviewing code, and relaying product and engineering decisions.
- Wrote a technical design document for each new feature and presented it to TD's Design Review Board.
- Led the refactor of 25+ legacy XML screens across 5 flows to support rotation, tablets, and foldables for Android 16.
- Shipped Birthday Greeting, built the Aeroplan points balance, and built the Compose screens and navigation for Pay-off Transaction.
- Fixed a rotation crash in a shared legacy calendar dialog and covered the fix with Robolectric tests.
- Built TalkBack-accessible Compose UI and verified each screen with recorded walkthroughs.
Senior Android Developer
A health benefits company whose native Android app serves health plan members. A per-plan configuration turns features on or off for each plan. Compose screens recomposed more than they needed to, and builds were slow across many modules. Members check their benefit wallet balances, shop approved over-the-counter and health products, manage a flex card, scan products for eligibility, and find stores. Kurt built core shopping flows and much of the shared Compose design system.

- Built a large portion of the shared Jetpack Compose design system, including text styles, theme colors, a global bottom sheet, and a reusable form system.
- Fixed Compose stability issues so composables could skip recomposition.
- Added a CI report that flagged non-skippable composables on each pull request.
- Built the checkout flow end to end, plus wallet balances, shop, and cart.
- Improved the Android build with one shared Gradle setup for all modules, JaCoCo test coverage reports, and faster builds with KSP.
Senior Android Developer
An Android library that adds a Community feature to a major fashion retailer’s apps across two brands. Users post text, polls, and comments in topic groups, and share outfit photos tagged with styles and linked to products.

- Built search-as-you-type with an 800 ms debounce that cancels stale requests
- Built the Styles feed with tag filtering and style post creation
- Built the user profile page (joined spaces, posts, styles, badges)
Android Developer
The companion app for a travel SIM provider. Frequent travelers use it to buy affordable data plans abroad (for example, regional plans for Asia or Europe).

- Migrated a legacy Java codebase to Kotlin, MVVM, and Clean Architecture with Dagger 2, RxJava, and Retrofit, one feature at a time while still shipping releases.
- Restructured the project with Gradle product flavors.
- Built airport notifications with WorkManager and location checks that promoted data plans to travellers and reminded them to activate their plans abroad.
- Owned Google Play releases and rollbacks end to end, and routed Crashlytics alerts to Slack.
Android Developer (Contract)
The app for one of Canada’s largest coalition loyalty programs. Members browse partners and offers, find nearby stores, check their balance and show a digital card at checkout.

- Led Save to Android Pay across Android and backend (the deep dive below).
- Built the animated entrance into partner details. I first built a shared-element transition that moved the partner’s logo along a curve. The designer later replaced that design, and I built the new one by hand with Android’s view animations: fades, slides and scales combined in s with interpolators, in Java (the second deep dive below).
- Added the nearest store on the partner details page, with a distance button that fires an implicit intent so the member opens directions in the app they already use.
