Responsibilities:

"Blockchain vs. Art Theft" — Ignite Tampa Tampa, FL — 2018

  • Delivered a talk to a live audience of 300-500 in Ignite's signature high-pressure format: 5 minutes, auto-advancing slides, no room to recover if you lose your place.
  • Argued that blockchain-based provenance tracking could solve art forgery and theft, describing what would later be formalized as NFTs years before the term existed, when the concept was still informally called "rares" or "nonfungibles" within the crypto community.
  • Talk is publicly archived on Ignite Tampa's official YouTube channel.

Community, Workshops & Media: Game Development Workshop — CodeImpact 2015, University of North Florida

  • Taught a live game development workshop, guiding attendees through building a complete Brick Breaker game in one hour.

Founder, GameDevJax Meetup

  • Founded and ran a game developer meetup community, partnering with Microsoft to host meetups and game development hackathons at the Microsoft Store, including event sponsorship.
  • Sponsored and invited by Microsoft, in partnership with Minecraft, to host and teach a Minecraft-themed programming workshop for kids, many on the autism spectrum — one of the more meaningful initiatives of my community work.

Extra Life Jax 2015 Gameathon

  • Raised the second-most funds of any participant in the event, streaming a 24-hour Dark Souls and Portal marathon while achieving a Platinum-tier fundraising rank, which prompted organizers to invite me to serve as chapter VP.

Web3 & Censorship-Resistant Technology Talks

  • Delivered talks in private community meetup groups on the future of Web3 and censorship-resistant technology.

Responsibilities:
  • Owned the end-to-end architecture and delivery of a 0-to-1 AI-powered BI platform for heavy equipment sales and leasing as sole Tech Lead, driving a 500-600% lift in lead conversion over standard UCC pipeline tools.
  • Built a custom lead scraping and data normalization engine to reconcile fragmented, inconsistent UCC filing and equipment listing data into a single structured feed, eliminating manual data entry across various sources.
  • Designed and shipped AI-powered predictive lead/deal scoring using MCP-based model orchestration, ranking opportunities by close probability so reps prioritized the top 12% of deals instead of working cold lists.
  • Independently conceived and deployed an in-app AI assistant chatbot for sales reps to surface next-best-actions and deal context on demand, without PM specs or design mockups to work from.
  • Architected OEM-specific data enrichment pipelines to normalize manufacturer/dealer data feeds across disparate formats, reducing lookup and matching errors that reps previously handled by hand.
  • Built route planning and navigation tooling for field sales reps, sequencing in-person visits by deal priority and geography to cut wasted drive time and increase daily site coverage.
  • Shipped manager-facing reporting, tracking, and monitoring dashboards giving sales leadership real-time visibility into rep activity and pipeline health, replacing manual spreadsheet rollups.
  • Chose a lean Next.js/Supabase/Vercel stack over a heavier enterprise infrastructure, keeping infra costs low and iteration speed high for a fast-moving, fast-growing product.
  • Translated vague, unrefined stakeholder requests into production features in days, iterating directly against user feedback rather than working from formal specs.
  • Used AI-assisted development workflows to accelerate delivery of boilerplate and integration code, freeing time to hand-tune the scoring and enrichment logic core to the product's differentiation.

Project Overview

Emergency technical recovery and rebuild for a $10M artisan furniture ecommerce business running on an enterprise WordPress (Bedrock/Sage) architecture, after the outgoing lead developer departed without handoff, taking the repository, server credentials, and merchant account keys.

Responsibilities:
  • Executed a full emergency technical recovery of a $10M ecommerce business within a single week, after the outgoing lead developer of 18 years departed with the only copies of the repository, server credentials, and merchant account keys.
  • Forensically recovered the complete git history across dev, staging, and production from an exposed .git directory inadvertently left on the staging server, restoring full version control with zero data loss.
  • Diagnosed a high-stakes dual-site Authorize.net misconfiguration, tracing checkout failures to legacy HMAC signature keys and plugins pointed at the wrong of two properties sharing a single merchant account.
  • Re-engineered the WooCommerce checkout integration to support heavily customized dropdown-based field selectors, restoring native plugin compatibility that years of undocumented frontend customization had silently broken.
  • Contained a live production payment outage triggered by an urgent same-day credential rotation, personally coordinating phone-based order recovery that saved $7K in at-risk transactions with zero permanent revenue loss.
  • Rotated and re-secured every compromised credential across hosting, repository, and payment infrastructure, fully closing the access footprint left by an abruptly departed 18-year incumbent developer.
  • Rebuilt and hardened checkout and payment processing on an enterprise Bedrock/Sage WordPress architecture, converting a single-developer point of failure into a documented, independently maintainable system.
  • Became the sole technical authority for a business-critical ecommerce platform within days of first contact, stabilizing operations with zero prior codebase familiarity and no handoff documentation.
  • Replaced 18 years of undocumented, tribal-knowledge engineering with recovered version control and a hardened, auditable checkout and payments pipeline.

Project Overview

A custom cold outbound sales pipeline targeting C-suite and creative directors at advertising agencies.

Responsibilities:
  • Independently conceived, pitched, and closed a net-new outbound sales engagement, then designed and deployed the entire technical pipeline in 2 weeks with zero existing infrastructure, sales assets, or client requirements handed to me.
  • Built a full-stack personalized outbound engine (Vue3, Node.js, MongoDB) combining scraped LinkedIn data, Apollo, and Clay enrichment to generate individually tailored landing pages for each prospect.
  • Engineered a Python/FFmpeg pipeline to auto-generate personalized "fake Loom" video greetings referencing each prospect's own website and a scripted pitch, at scale, for every lead in the pipeline.
  • Stood up cold email sending infrastructure from bare metal, configuring DKIM/SPF across rotating burner domains and IP rotation to achieve a 94% inbox placement rate and 54% open rate, well above industry benchmarks.
  • Implemented end-to-end funnel and KPI tracking, capturing video watch percentage, on-site actions, and engagement signals per prospect, turning passive video views into a prioritized hot-lead signal.
  • Authored all outbound sales copy, scripts, and messaging sequences used across the campaign, owning both the technical build and the go-to-market narrative.
  • Ran a 3-month live pilot targeting C-suite and creative directors at advertising agencies, then used funnel data to correctly diagnose that cold email alone couldn't drive checkout-style conversion for this buyer segment.
  • Pivoted the entire go-to-market motion based on pilot data, re-scoping toward a hot-lead handoff model feeding direct mail and phone follow-up instead of forcing a mismatched self-serve funnel.
  • Designed and shipped a custom internal CMS in 1 week, enabling non-technical staff to run the same cold email/video engine, schedule calls and follow-ups, and onboard prospects as clients end-to-end.
  • Owned the complete lifecycle of a growth initiative - sales strategy, infrastructure, creative assets, and data-driven pivot - collapsing a function normally split across sales, marketing, and engineering teams into a single role.

Full-stack web application for a premium voice-talent agency, going far beyond a marketing site into a bespoke catalog management system. Features a custom administrative backend for managing a full talent catalog, audio/image asset libraries, and blog content; a from-scratch streaming MP3 player with instant client-side search/filter/sort; and a cookie-based "favorites list" checkout-style flow for ad agency account executives building talent shortlists for their own clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Served as sole Tech Lead on a multi-year, full-stack platform build for a premium voice-talent agency, working directly with ownership through multiple rounds of pivots, reskins, and architectural refactors as the product vision evolved.
  • Designed a custom catalog-fairness system that randomizes talent ordering on a configurable 3/5/7-day interval, using a modulo-based midnight-boundary calculation to derive a deterministic seed for a Fisher-Yates shuffle.
  • Eliminated backend load for catalog browsing by pre-computing shuffle results into a minified flat JSON cache, letting all frontend search/sort/filter run client-side with zero database queries, shrinking the attack surface and removing the need for horizontal backend scaling.
  • Architected a database-free "favorites list" feature by encoding selected demo IDs as a base62 string stored in a cookie, letting ad agency account executives build and share stateless shortlists (/favorites/hash) with zero data layer footprint.
  • Built a fully custom streaming MP3 player and instant, client-side search/sort/filter across the entire talent catalog from scratch, with no reliance on third-party media or search libraries.
  • Engineered custom SEO navigation guards that inject keywords and meta descriptions at the router level, generating indexable "pages" for paths with no backing route or database record, later extended to power the site's collections feature with no additional routing logic.
  • Built a bespoke administrative control plane from the client's functional specs, giving non-technical staff full ownership of talent profiles, audio/image asset libraries, catalog collections, and blog content.
  • Delivered a full blogging platform's worth of functionality (authoring, publishing, categorization) as a native module of the broader application rather than bolting on a third-party CMS.
  • Maintained architectural coherence across two years of client-driven pivots and redesigns, repeatedly extending core systems (routing, caching, admin tooling) to absorb new requirements without a rebuild.
  • Owned the full technical relationship directly with agency ownership, translating an exacting, detail-driven client's evolving vision into a stable, production-grade platform.
  • Deployed and self-managed the entire application on bare-metal infrastructure rather than managed cloud hosting, keeping the platform live for 1.5+ years with zero downtime.

Full-stack desktop publishing and eLearning platform for homeschool families, combining a Canva-style visual editor for building custom workbooks and worksheets with a membership-gated content and course system. Includes distinct admin, teacher, and student control planes, a real-time RBAC sync against an external subscription/membership system, a searchable clipart and template library, and large-scale PDF export (50-100+ page documents) offloaded to AWS Lambda.

Project gallery:
Portfolio example for Desktop Publishing & eLearning Platform, Homeschool Education by Nick, Tech Lead
Responsibilities:
  • Architected and built a full-stack desktop publishing and eLearning platform for homeschool families, with fully distinct admin, teacher, and student control planes and workflows.
  • Built a real-time membership/RBAC sync layer bridging the app backend with an external WordPress/WooCommerce/MemberPress subscription system, gating content packs, courses, and template libraries by membership tier.
  • Built a full Canva-style visual editor from scratch, including drag/drop/scale/rotate text and image nodes, a searchable clipart and template library with lazy-loaded performance optimization, zoom, and full undo/redo.
  • Solved a UI/data-model mismatch in canvas layer ordering, where the underlying node array and the visual "layer order" toolbar are naturally inverted, by building an index-mapped flip/remap system to deliver a correct Photoshop-style ordering experience.
  • Diagnosed a hard architectural ceiling in the Konva.js rendering layer, which lacked support for mixed inline text formatting, and led a full platform migration to a Pixi.js/WebGL rendering engine to unblock a critical product requirement.
  • Reverse-engineered and rewrote the pixi-essentials Transformer class from the ground up, replacing its rigid resize/scale behavior with custom logic supporting independent bounds-resize (orthogonal handles) and font-scale (diagonal handles) transforms.
  • Designed a unidirectional data architecture, making the Pinia store the single source of truth for canvas state, driving all rendering from custom user-interaction event listeners rather than the render layer itself, eliminating an entire class of state-desync bugs between the app and the rendering engine.
  • Solved a rendering-performance bottleneck in HTML/rich-text node editing by hot-swapping rendered HTML snapshot nodes for lightweight plain-text nodes during active drag/transform interactions, avoiding continuous HTML-to-texture re-rasterization mid-gesture.
  • Built a custom floating text-editing overlay that dynamically matches the underlying canvas node's font, size, style, and rotation, seamlessly swapping between live-edit and rendered states.
  • Re-architected the canvas rendering strategy to render only the active page plus lazy-loaded minimap thumbnails against a full multi-hundred-page document model, keeping memory and GPU usage constant regardless of document length.

Responsibilities:
  • Built a custom WooCommerce checkout workflow integrating Gravity Forms to capture recipient details (mobile number, personal message, gift-card amount) directly into a single purchase flow, replacing a stock checkout that couldn't support the product's SMS-delivery model.
  • Integrated Twilio SMS to deliver personalized e-greeting cards directly to recipients' mobile devices via a unique link, the core delivery mechanism for both individual consumers and enterprise clients running corporate gifting programs.
  • Integrated the Tremendous API to attach a recipient-selectable digital gift card (Starbucks, Home Depot, prepaid Visa, and more) to any e-card purchase, letting buyers gift funds without dictating how the recipient redeems them.
  • Connected WooCommerce, Gravity Forms, and the Tremendous API into a single seamless checkout, capturing gift-card amount and recipient preferences at time of purchase with custom field logic.
  • Independently designed and built a "group buy" feature end-to-end, from spec through deployment, after being rehired by the client one month after initial launch, specifically to deliver it.
  • Designed a privacy-aware contribution model for group cards, letting each contributor opt in or out of disclosing their donation amount to the recipient, without ever exposing withheld amounts.
  • Built the full group-buy lifecycle, including a dedicated contribution page, a defined contribution window, and automated aggregation and delivery of the combined gift card and signed card once the window closed.
  • Built a WP REST API layer connecting custom frontend views and jQuery-driven interactions to WooCommerce order and gift-card data, powering both the checkout and group-buy experiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Served as sole Tech Lead building a full-stack personalized product platform end-to-end, from the customer-facing personalization workflow through fully automated print fulfillment.
  • Designed and built an interactive, stepper-based personalization workflow (avatar, skin tone, hair color, ethnicity selection) starting directly on the homepage, letting customers generate and preview a live sample of their child's book before purchase.
  • Built a custom interactive "flip the page" book preview that dynamically populates from the customer's in-progress personalization choices, turning an abstract product decision into a tangible, emotionally engaging preview.
  • Architected the checkout data flow so every personalization choice (gender, avatar, ethnicities selected) was captured as WooCommerce order metafields, driving the entire downstream fulfillment pipeline from a single source of truth at checkout.
  • Built an automated, event-driven fulfillment pipeline triggered directly off WooCommerce payment-success hooks, dispatching an outbound API request to a custom PDF generation service with zero manual order handling.
  • Stood up and self-hosted a bare-metal PHP/PDFKit rendering server to generate print-ready story PDFs on demand, decoupling book generation entirely from the WordPress storefront.
  • Designed and built a custom modular story-generation engine, drawing on a gamedev background, that dynamically assembles a personalized narrative from 30-50 ethnicity-specific story modules, each with dedicated pages and a custom narrative transition sequence between heritage chapters.
  • Closed the fulfillment loop with a bidirectional integration between the PDF rendering service and the WooCommerce order system, automatically updating order status once a book was rendered and ready for review.
  • Implemented a human-in-the-loop approval gate ahead of automated fulfillment, generating a print-ready JSON payload to the dropship printing partner only after manual sign-off, per client requirements.
  • Delivered a fully turnkey, largely automated production pipeline, from a customer personalization flow to print-ready fulfillment, without the client needing to touch a single order manually beyond final approval.

Project gallery:
Portfolio example for Statewide Educational Training & Events Platform, Texas by Nick, Backend Integration Engineer
Responsibilities:
  • Engaged to resolve a severely fragmented backend spanning Zapier, Airtable, Google Sheets, and a separate payments/subscription platform, where broken and unsynced integrations were causing missing transactions and unbooked event attendees.
  • Redesigned the integration architecture around Zapier as the single coordination point for offsite actions, routing every automation trigger through webhooks into a custom WordPress backend rather than letting each tool independently mutate shared state.
  • Built a custom WP REST API layer of purpose-built handlers to receive and reconcile incoming Zapier webhook events, replacing ad hoc, disconnected automations with a single authoritative processing layer.
  • Refactored the backend into isolated modules per workflow/action, using a hook-and-loader-based plugin architecture with class autoloading, to enforce separation of concerns across booking, membership, and payment logic that had previously lived as one another's side effects.
  • Modeled a multi-tier membership hierarchy reflecting the organization's real-world structure, linking superintendents to the schools and sub-accounts they oversee.
  • Designed and implemented enterprise account payment logic supporting mixed net-15/net-30 invoicing and standard credit card payment within a single unified booking and billing workflow.
  • Diagnosed and eliminated the root causes of lost event bookings and missing transactions, tracing failures to race conditions and unsynced state across the pre-existing multi-tool stack.
  • Rebuilt the core event booking engine to be the single source of truth for attendee registration status, closing gaps that had been silently dropping confirmed bookings.

An AI-powered communication platform and business phone system designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Project gallery:
Portfolio example for Production Caching Incident Resolution for a Cloud Business Phone Platform by Nick, Full-Stack Developer
Responsibilities:
  • Resolved a production-breaking, multi-layer cache-poisoning bug in a single overnight session after it had defeated the client's in-house engineering team and multiple freelance developers over 6 consecutive weeks.
  • Diagnosed a session-scoped state leak in which one visitor's filtered/sorted plan search results (by geographic area) were being served to entirely different visitors, corrupting the core plan-browsing experience.
  • Traced the root cause through four independently misbehaving caching layers stacked on top of each other: Opcache, a WordPress Redis object-cache plugin, Varnish full-page caching, and Nginx routing.
  • Worked the diagnosis back-to-front, systematically purging and isolating each cache layer (Opcache, then Redis, then Varnish) to trace contaminated data flow from the database all the way to the frontend.
  • Identified a misconfigured Nginx routing rule that was inconsistently bypassing Varnish for a subset of requests, a root contributor to why the bug had been so difficult for prior engineers to reproduce and isolate.
  • Corrected cache-key and Vary logic across the Varnish and Redis layers so cached responses were properly scoped to each visitor's actual filter, sort, and session context instead of serving one shared cached result to all users.
  • Worked directly with the company's CEO under significant pressure, given the bug's business impact and the failure of multiple prior remediation attempts, to deliver a definitive production fix.
  • Delivered a complete resolution of a systemic, cross-layer infrastructure bug that no other engineer, internal or external, had been able to isolate over a month and a half of attempts.
