Rifky – Next.js, Node.js, React

A merchant onboarding and management platform for a consumer credit provider. It takes a business from registration through document submission, verification and internal approval to being live and able to offer the credit product at checkout. It serves two audiences: merchants, who get a self-service onboarding flow and a dashboard for their own account and data, and internal risk, compliance and operations teams, who get review and approval tooling, because a lender cannot approve merchants without an accountable person in the loop.

• Owned the merchant onboarding and merchant data service end to end, covering both its web interfaces and its backend.
• Built merchant-facing and internal web applications in TypeScript using React and Next.js.
• Cut the onboarding SLA, measured from registration to going live, by up to 75 percent by replacing manual internal steps with automated flows, while keeping the approval decisions that required a human.
• Implemented and maintained authentication and authorisation using OAuth, JWT and SSO, working alongside the information security team on application hardening.
• Designed and built the REST APIs consumed by the frontend, written in Node.js and Go.
• Monitored and debugged production services using Datadog, previously New Relic, with Scalyr for log management.
• Reviewed code and shared knowledge with other engineers on the team.

Backend services for a stream of client web applications, each built for an external business with the frontend delivered by a separate team. My side was the services and APIs behind the interface, plus making the two halves meet cleanly. The work was as much about the clients as the code: briefs often described what the client assumed they wanted rather than what would actually work once built, so part of the job was proposing changes before implementation instead of delivering to a spec that was going to fail.

An internal system to automate parts of a customer service operation that were being handled manually. I was the only developer on it and built the core of the system from nothing. The company ceased operations before the system was finished, so it still limited to internal usage at that time.

• Built the core of a customer service automation system single-handed, from an empty repository.
• Took the system from requirements through to a working core before the company ceased operations.

A dining and lifestyle platform for a Singapore market, used by consumers to discover restaurants and by restaurants to reach them. The core of the product was a searchable restaurant listing with editorial content around it, plus advertising placements sold against that listing. I joined an application that was already live and carrying production traffic, so most of my work was changing a running system without breaking it.

• Maintained and improved a production web application for a Singapore client, working on a codebase I did not originally write.
• Delivered a rebuilt restaurant listing along with the advertising placements around it.
• Worked on Elasticsearch improvements for the platform's search.
• Fixed defects and shipped feature requests from the client directly.
